Problems Based on Graphical Representation of Motion for Class 9 Science

Problems Based on Graphical Representation of Motion

Q.1. The velocity time graph of an ascending passenger lift is given below. What is the
acceleration of the lift: (i) during the first two seconds (ii) between 2nd and 10th second (iii)
during the last two seconds.

Q.2. The figure is the distance-time graph of an object. Do you think it represents a
real situation? If so, why? If not, why not?

Q.3. A body is moving uniformly with a velocity of 5m/s. Find graphically the distance travelled
by it in 5 seconds.

Q.4. Study the speed-time graph of a body shown in below figure and answer the following
questions:
(a) What type of motion is represented by OA?
(b) What type of motion is represented by AB?
(c) What type of motion is represented by BC?
(d) Calculate the acceleration of the body.
(e) Calculate the retardation of the body.
(f) Calculate the distance travelled by the body from A to B.

Q.5. In the above question, calculate (i) distance travelled from O to A (ii) distance travelled
from B to C. (iii) total distance travelled by the body in 16 sec.

Q.6. A car is moving on a straight road with uniform acceleration. The following table gives the
speed of the car at various instants of time:

Draw the speed time graph choosing a convenient scale. Determine from it (i) the
acceleration of the car (ii) the distance travelled by the car in 50 sec.

Q.7. The figure is the distance-time graph of an object. Do you think it represents a
real situation? If so, why? If not, why not?

Q.8. The graph in below figure shows the positions of a body at different times. Calculate the
speed of the body as it moves from (i) A to B (ii) B to C and (iii) C to D.

Q.9. A car is moving on a straight road with uniform acceleration. The speed of the car varies
with time as follows:

Draw the speed time graph choosing a convenient scale. Determine from it (i) the
acceleration of the car (ii) the distance travelled by the car in 10 sec.

Q.10. The graph given below is the velocity-time graph for a moving body. Find (i) velocity of
the body at point C (ii) acceleration acting on the body between A and B (iii) acceleration
acting on the body between B and C.

In the previous academic session (2023-24) and the upcoming one (2024-25), the question paper composition remains the same for Classes IX and X.. This composition includes three main types of questions:

  1. Competency Focused Questions (50%): These are questions that test your understanding and application of concepts. They can be in the form of MCQs, Case Based Questions, Source-based Integrated Questions, or other types that focus on your competency in the subject.

  2. Select Response Type Questions (MCQs - 20%): These are multiple-choice questions where you choose the correct answer from a set of options.

  3. Constructed Response Questions (Short Answer/Long Answer Type - 30%): These are questions where you have to write detailed answers, either in short or long format, based on the existing pattern.

So, in essence, the question paper for classes IX-X will continue to have a mix of competency-focused questions, MCQs, and constructed response questions in the upcoming academic session, similar to the previous one.

XI and XII

In the previous academic session (2023-24), the question paper composition was:

  • Competency Focused Questions (40%)
  • Select response type questions (MCQs - 20%)
  • Constructed response questions (Short Answer/Long Answer Type - 40%)

For the upcoming academic session (2024-25), the composition will be:

  • Competency Focused Questions (50%)
  • Select response type questions (MCQs - 20%)
  • Constructed response questions (Short Answer/Long Answer Type - 30%)

This means there's an increase in the weightage of Competency Focused Questions and a slight decrease in the weightage of Constructed response questions for classes XI-XII in the upcoming academic session.
